OpTek offers unique optical fiber processing capabilities
OpTek’s patented optical fiber processing technology may be accessed via our contract manufacturing services or as production line machine tools. Our processes include laser cleaving, fiber cleaving, angle cleaving, ribbon cleaving, connector cleaving, laser lensing, fiber lensing, laser stripping, and laser fusing of fiber end caps.
OpTek systems developed the first commercially available laser cleaving and laser lensing processes for performance-critical optical fiber applications. These processes have continued to develop to meet the increasing demand for high-quality termination of optical fiber across a growing range of applications.
Originally developed to meet the challenges of the rapidly growing optical telecommunications market, the laser cleave process was developed to create high-quality terminations on the most common single mode, multimode, and polarization maintaining optical fibers. These included flat cleaves, angled cleaves, and lenses machined directly onto optical fiber ends. The laser processing approach offers improved optical performance over mechanically cleaved or polished ends and helped to drive higher efficiencies in the optical comms network. Today this approach provides the same advantages to applications including fiber lasers, medical devices, sensing, active optical interconnects, and can be applied to a wide range of fiber types including those with more complex structures.
Today OpTek offers a broad portfolio of production line equipment from desktop tools for cleaving optical fiber and epoxy for connector termination through to fully automated spool to component processing tools, incorporating multiple processing steps. In addition to production equipment OpTek provides subcontract optical fiber and optical interconnect processing services, through its fully equipped facilities in the UK, USA and China
